Green as …

I mentioned the weekly theme photography competition that runs at a client’s office.  The last to finish was “On the theme of Green”.  I entered the above with the title Green as Decay I, and captioned it:

Common associations with Green are youthfulness, spring and growth. Being contrarian, I’ve tried to make an association between Green and Decay.

In the end, it won against some strong (and arguably stronger) competition.  The judge, amongst other things, said:

I think this illustrates nature’s battle against adversity and the urban environment in that plants will find any crack to grow and prosper out of. It illustrates strength, tenacity, and determination.

… and the more I think about it, the more I agree with him*; but then again a rose in a tulip garden is a weed.

To be honest, I’m just glad someone looked at the photograph and didn’t just think “Oooh, sharp!”

* It reminds me of a picture I made previously, too. Maybe there’s the beginnings of a set here…
